Better Call Saul - Season 4 Episode 09: Wiedersehen
New exciting stories of Better Call Saul come up in the fourth season following Jimmy McGill, the expert criminal legal counselor. In this season we see McGill lives dismal time in the wake of Chuck's deplorable passing however Kim battles to help him. In the interim, Mike begins to consider his part in Madrigal.
"Wiedersehen" is Gennifer Hutchison's thirteenth episode writing for the Gould-Gilligan universe, and it's served well by the overall season's tightly written subplots.
Kind of heartbreaking to see Kim excitedly make a "World's Greatest Lawyer Again" travel mug for Jimmy, along with buying him a shiny new legal briefcase, in anticipation of him getting reinstated.
With the luxury of at least four seasons of prequel, Breaking Bad creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould are leaving no stone un-mined for a backstory in Better Call Saul.
There was nothing subtle about this one. They laid it all out for you right there on the screen, right down to wide shots so you recognized the nursing home and super-tight close-ups on the bell-ringing finger. It was awesome. I whooped a little.
If last week made us hopeful for Jimmy and Kim's future, "Wiedersehen" completely ripped away any excitement we might have felt for our once dynamic duo.
As with every episode of Better Call Saul, this show never lacks when it comes to disappointment. The fact that this week's installment delivered that in a unique way, however, is to be respected.
