Donnie Darko is a boy in Middlesex, but is in no way normal. He sees a therapist on a regular basis, because his parents think he is going insane. Donnie has an imaginary friend, frank the bunny rabbit. Frank told Donnie to leave his bedroom and leads him to a golf course. He tells Donnie that the world is coming to an end on Halloween. When Donnie gets home, he finds that while he was sleep walking with frank that a plane engine had crashed into his house right on his room. Frank saved Donnies life. Donnie needs to deal with the pressure of being a high school student, his girlfriend Gretchen, and he also needs to find out where frank came from. He cant ask for help, because he is alone. No one else sees frank. He later finds out that frank is from the future. Donnie caused franks death by shooting him in the eye when he and his friend run Gretchen over. Donnie then drives the place where we first see him, somewhere where he must go when he sleep walks. A porthole opens to the past, and Donnie enters. We see the movie rewind, and we are at the beginning once more. Donnie is lying in bed. Donnie smiles and laughs softly. The plane engine hits his house, and he dies. Show less «
