Amber Holt (Mae Whitman)Amber Holt is Sarah Braverman's daughter and oldest child.At 16 she is smack dab in the middle of a serious rebellious phase and when her mother announces they are leaving Fresno to move in with Amber's grandparents Zeek and Camille she tries to stay behind with a boyfriend. She is dragged along kicking and screaming and she continues to do so as she and her mother constantly butt heads over Amber's willfulness.Sarah fears Amber will follow in her haphazard path and is trying to set boundaries, of which Amber actually desires but cannot find a way to obeying.Amber presents as rebellious but inside she is as insecure as most teens her age and worries about how she looks and boys. Compounding this is the fact that her father, musician Seth Holt, has been a spotty, mostly negative presence in her life.Amber is the older sister of Drew, who has a more favorable opinion of their father, and is close with her cousin Haddie.
